IN A NEW YEAR, IN A NEW WORLD: A RETURN TO AN OLD WAY TO RELAX

The last time the world economy felt this shaky, going out for the evening meant dressing up to go dancing in nightclubs featuring Big Band music and dancing with a partner. In an unusual historical parallel, many of today's hottest nightspots are once again ballroom dance clubs, where couples enjoy many of the same dances, often to the same music their grandparents enjoyed.

"We know from long experience that when times are bad, people turn to each other and to simple, enjoyable means of entertainment," said John Kimmins, President of Arthur Murray International. "During World War II, our studios were busy with people escaping the harsh realities around them. We are once again in a difficult time and once again, a night out of dancing in a partner's arms is a welcome way to relax from the worries and stresses of the day's challenges."

March is traditionally the month when New Year's resolutions fall by the wayside. Instead, it should be a time to take a look at our lives and decide what matters, what doesn't, and to consider what we want to do for the rest of the year. For many, making good on promises to self to learn how to ballroom dance before the next season of Dancing with the Stars is a resolution that is all about fun and taking a mental vacation from everyday life. And while many New Year's resolutions come and go before the arrival of spring, the resolutions that are fun are always easier to keep than those that are not. "Making the decision to learn to dance in 2012 is great because it combines several amazing benefits into one. Learning to dance takes care of that promise to take better care of your health with a regular exercise program," says Thomas Murdock, Vice President of Marketing and Promotions for Arthur Murray International. "And if you've promised yourself to be more social, meet more new people and get out more, getting involved with dance lessons will take care of that too. Many Arthur Murray Dance Studios are involved in charitable events, which add yet another component to learning to dance - giving back to the community." Arthur Murray Dance Studios can be found throughout America and Canada and in Australia, Brazil, Italy, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, South Africa, Japan, and Puerto Rico.
